‍ ‍ Testimonials

  • “Kate’s workshop is nothing short of transformative. Even after years of writing professionally, I never fully considered myself a writer. My work never felt personal enough (hello, imposter syndrome). But Kate creates a space that feels safe, seen, and deeply supportive, no matter your experience level. She reminds you to embrace the messy middle, to just get the draft down, and to celebrate the act of writing itself. That gentle encouragement helped me get out of my head in a way I didn’t expect. Each week’s essays and prompts sparked something new and kept my creativity flowing. I’m so grateful to have spent six weeks in such a thoughtful, inspiring space, with Kate at the helm and a brilliant group of writers beside me. Writing is vulnerable, yes, but this workshop reminded me how rewarding it can be too.”

  • “In her classes, Kate creates the perfect container—sturdy, with her deep understanding of craft; safe, with great empathy and care; yet also flexible. Each of the three workshops I’ve taken with her has taken on different textures and shapes. Consistent across them all was the gift of a community of writers and pages I am proud of.”

  • “Kate's class helped me overcome my fear of writing an essay that had been incubating inside of me for more than a year. She offered the encouragement and practical tools to turn a complex idea into a structured, formal piece of writing, and created an environment where we were all comfortable sharing with one another. From start to finish, an inspiring experience that anyone interested in personal essay writing should dive into headfirst.”

  • “Kate’s writing workshop is a revelation. After years of academic research-based writing, I was conditioned to write argumentatively, to sit down to a new piece with absolute certainty about where I was going and how I would get there. My writing felt stifled—proficient, but devoid of discovery. Through Kate’s workshop, I was able to shake off my old mindset, shed some layers, and rediscover that labyrinth of my own making that is the core of any truly creative pursuit. Kate is an exceptional teacher who creates a container in which writers of all backgrounds are comfortable sharing, stretching, and strengthening their voices. If you’re on the fence, let this be your sign—take a workshop with Kate!”

  • “I've taken three classes with Kate and I'll definitely be signing up for more. She genuinely cares about the craft and has a knack for assigning incredible readings and giving insightful feedback. The community created over the course of six weeks has always been supportive and thoughtful, which is ideal for sharing the most vulnerable of work. After twelve years of writing for brands and ad agencies, I’ve finally rediscovered my own voice. I'm now motivated to carve out time to write, which feels, I don't know, miraculous! Seriously, take this class.”

    -Marisa D.

  • “Taking Kate's writing class was a profound gift to my writing life. It was a rare combination of practical, fun, and creatively invigorating. Kate's curation of readings, prompts and writing assignments shook loose the rigid grip I had on my own creativity and helped me actually listen to my strange and winding writing process. Kate knows her shit and also makes you feel like an equal. She is a generous, sensitive, whip-smart teacher. I can't wait to share space with Kate and her inspiring students again.”

    -Sophia S.

  • “Kate creates a safe, thoughtful, and structured (yet flexible) space in the zoom room. For those who have never taken a creative writing class before but are curious, this is for you. For those who are looking for a space to write into a story that is asking to come out, this is for you. I’m blown away that she has something authentic and specific to say after each person shares. Her classes are full of examples of amazing published lyrical essays and she has great prompts to get you into the writing mode. This class has helped me piece together stories that have sat on my memory archive shelf for years, allowing me to make sense of my own life journey. For that I am endlessly grateful. ”

    -Jess C.

  • “Kate's writing class lays the groundwork with carefully curated readings, prompts, and exercises that inspire enchantment and attunement with oneself and the world. Before taking Kate's class I didn’t know how enriching and expanding the right community could be for my writing. It felt like a door getting unstuck. I have started to see the possibilities of what my writing could be. Kate is a most generous, compassionate, and intuitive teacher, getting to know her students individually to encourage and challenge each in the most supportive way. I learned so much about my style and what I bring to the page in a way that felt broadening.”

About your instructor

“I adore personal essays and exploring possibilities of various forms, especially for writers who have a story, but aren’t sure how best to tell it. When chronology feels like it’s lacking, patterns can unlock narrative magic. Careful noticing, vivid detail, and unlikely connections create meaningful, exciting work.” - Kate
